Inflation is not the problem. Environmental catastrophes like wildfires and widespread deaths from excess heat are not the problem.  The demise of 25,000 people globally each day from malnutrition and disease is not the problem.  Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine is not the problem, nor are disruptions in the global food supply.  Undocumented immigrants who pick and pack our foods at low wages and miserable conditions are not the problem.  Attempts to outlaw abortion and compromise women’s health is not the problem.   Racist policing and the summary execution of suspects is not the problem.  The legal privileges afforded guns and their owners at the expense of those they murder are not the problem.  That the US spends more on military arms than the next nine countries combined but that is not the problem, either.

As dangerous and appalling as these things are There is only one fundamental problem: securing justice for Donald Trump and his co-conspirators.  They failed to disrupt the legal counting of electoral votes on January 6, 2020 and now seek to re-take power through repeating the same fraud and deceit that almost worked.  Their goal is to undermine American elections and demolish popular sovereignty. Trump’s delaying tactics continue to paralyze the legal system.  Trump runs not to govern but as a way of staying out jail for his white collar crime spree.

Please help ensure that he loses a record third time in his quest for the presidency.  Do not believe that this will happen on its own, nor that there is a diety just above the clouds looking out for America.  In the name of saving America the far right will wave our flag and sing our anthem while they slit her throat.  They will claim this is the will of God, who is now and has always been on the side of the White man.  Pretend patriots will overthrow the Constitution, unless we stop them.

Redefeat Trump has been brought to life, as you might expect, by both fear and hope. Without a doubt Trump will claim victory regardless of the outcome.  This would plunge the nation into a profound crisis in which the future of the republic would be in grave doubt. Democrats will demand fidelity to Constitutional procedures while the right, the far right and the very far right will take up arms to intimidate, kill and maim fellow citizens.  We will watch completely aghast as state legislatures in Republican-controlled states cite bogus claims and unsubstantiated rumors to award Trump their electoral votes, despite having received fewer votes than Biden those states.  A corrupt and highly partisan Republican Supreme Court would again validate anti-Constitutional state actions, as they did in 2004.  There are few respectable Republicans left.  The Republican Party as a whole embraces Trump’s Big Lie that the 2020 was stolen from him, making this nightmare scenario more and more likely.

There is, however, hope that we can avoid this calamity and defend American democracy.  Our best hope lies in the legitimacy of constitutional procedures.  Trump has never won a majority, not in 2016 nor in 2020.  Generating more votes than Trump is no guarantee of election justice, but here it is our central concern.   Well over half the American people stand with us in opposition to Trump and his unrelenting calls to fear and division.

How will we do it?  We will amplify messages that would energize an anti-Trump audience, but we are hardly alone in that.  Our contribution will be to join forces with others to get thousands of lapsed Democratic voters registered and out to vote in the six swing states. 

Republicans use malicious and illegal means to prevent likely Democrats from voting.

• They distribute voting machines unfairly, so poor and working class people must wait in long lines to vote, while in the suburbs these obstacles do not exist.
• They create boundaries for Congressional districts so that in a state like North Carolina about the same number of citizens will vote for each of the two major parties but this will result in 10 Republican House seats to just 4 for the Democrats.
• They “mistakenly” remove thousands of Democrats from the voter rolls.
• They block convicted felons who have served their sentences and paid for their mistakes from voting, a tool to keep down the number of African-American voters, itself the potential margin of victory in Florida and elsewhere. 

As Democrats it will always be our burden to re-engage and re-mobilize voters who have soured on democracy because of these cruel and cynical tactics.  Despite every malicious and mean-spirited attempt by Republicans to reduce the electorate we must work to expand it. 

We would not expect to change the minds of many of those Trump voters, living as they do on lies fed to them by the an impotent and uncritical corporate media conglomerates. Expanding our margin of victory in 2024 depends on bringing many thousands of of prospective voters into the political system.  This will require considerable time, money, energy, dedication and enthusiasm.  At its most expansive our goal is to contribute to that however we can.
