Guess what percent of Americans who attend church regularly “believe” in evolution: 3%.  Yup, so says Gallup.  An amazing 58% of Republicans nationwide “think” that God created humans in their present form in the last few thousand years, and sprinkled dinosaur bones around just to fuck with us.

And there are pockets of extreme ignorance.  A Public Policy Polling poll finds that 70% of Georgia Republicans believe God created the world in 144 hours then rested for 24.  And it is not that the rest of the Georgia population believes in evolution.  That got only 17% of respondents.  It seems the remaining 13% are unsure.

This is the baseline for belief that Trump was cheated out of the presidency in 2020.  Of course Republicans are willing to believe that.  They are ready — given enough unrelenting repetition of untruths — to adopt any belief, no matter how absurd.  A POLES survey in 2021 found that 1 in 10 Americans believe the earth is flat, NASA faked the moon landings and COVID vaccinations implanted microchips.  Not just widespread ignorance, but ignorance with confidence.
