How to talk to Wacko-Americans

Trump voters are mostly lost to delusion.  They believe Trump's lies about the 2020 election results and most everything else.

Like you, Trump supporters resent being misled. Unlike you, they believe their Misleader is an honest truth-teller.

Falsehood 1

They believe our elections are rigged.

They are not. Transparency International publishes a Corruption Perceptions Index that ranks countries by public sector corruption, as assessed by experts and business executives. The integrity of public sector institutions is among the best in the world in the U.S., and among the worst in Russia, despite the praise corrupt Putin receives from corrupt Trump. Recall that Trump created a Voter Fraud Commission in 2017. It met twice, found no evidence of widespread voter fraud and so Trump abruptly disbanded it. The dean of Republican election lawyers, Ben Ginsberg, wrote in 2020 that while Republicans spent a lot of time looking for it, "it does not exist." These false allegations make it possible for Republican election officials to remove non-whites from voter rolls and favor white voters by making voting machines plentiful in the white suburbs but scarce everywhere else.

Falsehood 2

They believe the US economy is weak and mismanaged.

It is not. The U.S. economy is the world's richest, most productive and most innovative and is lengthening its lead. Look at ... anything. Even if you remove the COVID-plagued final year of the Trump presidency GDP grew 2.7% under Trump and has grown 3.5% under the Biden/Harris administration. Nearly 11M jobs have been created under Biden/Harris, including two of the strongest years of job growth in history. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, the lowest in 50 years. More small businesses have formed than in any two year period on record. Only 8% of Americans are now uninsured, down from j17.8% when the Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama in 2010, strengthened and extended under President Biden. In 1990 the U.S. accounted for 40% of the combined GDP of the G7, the seven most advanced industrial countries. Today it accounts for 58%. Trump promised to eliminate the national debt but, of course, increased it by $7.8 trillion dollars. These financial burdens will fall on our children and their children. They did not finance a war they put money back into the pockets of the wealthiest Americans.

Falsehood 3

They embrace crazy conspiracy "theories"

There is no satanic cult of Democratic pedophiles, rapists and child molesters. This fictitious cabal's alleged headquarters was allegedly the basement of a DC restaurant -- that has no basement. An amazing 42% of Republicans believe it is definitely or probably true that Democrats run child sex-trafficking rings. There is not enough space to run them all down but only about 3% of Americans are Jewish, making it mathematically impossible for Jews to replace the 40% of the population that are white working-class Americans, without college degrees. The children murdered at Sandy Hook and Uvalde were not "crisis actors." The Earth? It's round. NASA's moon launches landed on the actual moon. COVID shots do not contain secret microchips. An incredible 60% of Republicans believe that there is a single group of people who secretly control the world and rule the world. Just over half of Republicans believe Obama was not born in the US and that voting machines were programmed to flip votes from Trump to Biden in 2020. See YouGov polling.

They glory in the belief in White Priviledge

They call it White Nationalism. They want black and brown Americans to go to the back of the bus, sit quietly and not object to bigotry and racism. Solid majorities of Blacks (75%), Hispanics (59%) and Asians (64%) say increased attention to our history of slavery and racism is a very good thing. Nearly half of all Republicans (46% say it is either a somewhat or a very bad thing. Republicans think only a little (47%) or nothing (30%) needs to be done to ensure equal rights for all Americans. Democrats are the mirror opposite, with 74% saying a lot more needs to be done to achieve racial equality. The near totality of domestic terrorist acts and murders are perpetrated by ideologically or racially motivated right wing lunatics. JD Vance has wildly asserted that Biden encourages Mexican drug traffickers to bring fentanyl into the country purposely to kill Donald Trump supporters. Trump exploits white extinction paranoia to inflame his extremely gullible supporters. Having lost all the other words used to denigrate Black Americans white bigots now use the term "DEI hire," meaning diversity, equity and inclusion.
