Republican Politicians in Black Robes with Gavels
Aileen! Why can't you be true?
Federal Judge Aileen Cannon has waived a wand and made Trump’s theft of documents case go away. Poof. Her corruption is in plain site: she was appointed to her position by the defendant in the case. She is doing her best to sabotage the case against Trump. Sleeze at the highest levels is quiet, deniable and even unspoken, yet very effective. Trump is being charged under the Espionage Act, yet Cannon gave as a gift to Trump’s lawyers by suggesting the case hinges upon violations of the Presidential Records Act, which it emphatically does not. She’s carrying water for Trump and the Federalist Society, a club for jurists who urgently want to give wealthy white men the privilege our Constitution does not provide them. Special Counsel Jack Smith still has a chance to force her to move the case forward through a writ of mandamus, which permits litigants to bypass their assigned district court judge and go directly to a court of appeals.
And this, of course, on top of the thumb and forearm placed on the scale of justice by the U.S. Supreme Court, smoothing the way for their friend Donald. If you are keeping track at home the ones in the white robes are Trumpian racists. The ones in the black robes are his unethical lawyers, sitting on the bench working hard to protect a felon from further harm.
